Stress is common at any stage of life, when you are younger one can be stressed about their careers, spouses, or children. As a younger individual often it is easier to get through those stressful times and move on, but for seniors, however, the way you deal with stress and the way your body manages it can change, making proper stress management that much more essential.

People who have a positive outlook on life tend to deal with stress better as they age. Try to find joy in every day, even in the smallest moments. Here are a few stress management techniques and tips all seniors should follow:

1.     Meditation.

Studies on meditation show that it can not only provide relief from stress when it is practiced but can help build a kind of immunity to future stress—your stress response may be triggered less often if you meditate regularly. Meditation is also an ideal stress reliever for seniors in that it requires no special equipment or physical ability, can be practiced in a variety of settings, and provides excellent relief from stress.

2.     Exercise.

Aim to get your heart rate up for at least 30 minutes every day, as exercise is a known mood-booster. Find a physical activity you enjoy, whether it’s walking, biking, swimming, or taking an exercise class with friends.

3.     Cultivate warm relationships.

Friends and loved ones provide a shoulder to cry on during difficult times, and sometimes simply sharing your feelings with others helps ease some of the stress you’re going through.

4.     Eat Nutritious Meals.

You can handle stress better when you are as healthy as possible, so eating nutritiously is a good defense against stress.

In conclusion, it’s best to seek stress relief as soon as you suspect that stress may be a problem.
